The Whole Exome Sequencing is recommended to targets all protein-coding regions of genes (exome regions) and to identify genetic variants that alter protein sequences which may be correlated to different genetic disorders. Hence, similar to the WGS, the most common application is variant discovery ranging from single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and insertion/deletion (InDel). Most of the physicians and researchers who use sequencing technologies for diagnostic or research purposes, begin with the analysis of the exome, as typically take less time than the WGS approach and it is considerately less expensive.
